FBLA Region 1 Conference

FBLA Region 1 Conference Medal Winners

FBLA Region 1 Conference was January 26 at Eastern Arizona College. This was a chance for our students to practice their competitive events before the state competition. We had a great group of eighteen students who represented our school, and they enjoyed workshops, lunch, a "board game extravaganza", "leadership circus", "Battle of the Chapters", and more. Congratulations to the following for placing in their competitive events:

  • Brenten Freestone (third place in Accounting I and first place in Business Calculations)
  • Conner Curtis (second place in Job Interview)
  • Brayton Trejo (first place in UX Design)
  • Lacy Freestone (third place in Organizational Leadership)
  • Jeffery Savage (third place in Insurance Risk and Management)
  • Meilee Curtis (first place in Digital Video Production)

A big thanks to our chapter advisor, Mr. Barker, for his time in encouraging and assisting these future business leaders.

SSVEC Competition

SSVEC competition finalists holding their awards

On November 16, three juniors from St. David High School competed for the next SSVEC Washington Youth Tour. Sammy Judd, Anissa Jacquez and Seren Torres worked diligently on their project essays for the SSVEC competition, and studied hard for the two tests. The most grueling part was the interview. Sammy said it was a piece of cake, but other students said it was tough! The students are in the running for an SSVEC-sponsored scholarship, and all three will go to Washington, D.C. this summer for the Youth Tour! We will help runners-up Seren and Anissa raise money for their trip. Sammy's is completely paid for as he won first place! Congratulations!

When they were not competing they had the opportunity to attend workshops, then the week capped off with closing ceremonies. A big congratulations goes out to St. David senior Mason Anway who won the FBLA Arizona Scholarship and placed 2nd in Digital Photography and 8th in Healthcare Administration. Brayten Trejo placed 9th in Supply Chain Management.

Bisbee Tournament Winners

St. David High School Baseball team

Our St. David High School baseball team was 5-0 at the Bisbee Tournament March 10 through March 12. It was an especially exciting game Friday, March 11 as we were down by three runs, then won in the last inning 5-4. Coach Ron Goodman says, "I love these guys. They never quit! They are working really hard. Still a lot of work to do to make it back to the State Final, but we are working hard to get there! No one outworks the Tigers!"

FFA Recognition

We would like to congratulate our hardworking FFA chapter for their success in the spring conference at the University of Arizona on February 25 and 26. Students represented St David in 11 of the 21 state level Career and Leadership Development Events. It was a lot of work and for all of these students it was a first time event! A few things to celebrate:

  • Kerstin Haymore won an essay contest and received her own custom embroidered FFA jacket!
  • Range team, Marek Haynie, Ryan Gooding, Kydin Richardson, and Corban Fry placed sixth overall in State, and Corban Fry placed ninth highest individual in the state.
  • Soils team, Annie Davis, placed eighth overall in the state!

Thanks for all your support of FFA and a great big thanks to our awesome advisor, Mr. Dustin Hancock, for sharing so much of his time and talents with this program.

Wrestling Recognition

On Saturday, February 26, our middle school wrestling team finished off an amazing season at the CAC Championship tournament in Willcox and brought home so many medals! We had two individual champs, five second place and five third place. The Tigers walked away as second place team. Not bad for our first MS wrestling season! Congratulations to these fine young men! Thanks to Jonathan Watts for coaching and Brad Haynie for his help this season.
