St. David School is committed to supporting the health and well-being of our students. As part of that commitment, we want to make families aware of the Arizona Healthy Schools Act and its requirements regarding food and snacks on school campuses during the regular school day.
The Act prohibits schools from selling or allowing the distribution of certain ultra-processed foods on campus during the regular school day. This may affect snacks that are brought to school for classroom activities, celebrations, or other school-related purposes.
Snack Shopping Guide
To help families choose appropriate snacks, we have provided an Arizona Healthy Schools Act Snack Shopping Guide. The guide includes three categories:
🟢
Green Light – Compliant:
Foods that are generally compliant, but families should still verify the ingredient label.
🟡
Yellow Light – Check the Label:
Foods that may be compliant depending on the specific ingredients and variety.
🔴
Red Light – Commonly Not Compliant:
Foods that commonly contain ingredients that do not meet the requirements.
Some ingredients to watch for include Red 40, Red 3, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2, Green 3, titanium dioxide, BVO, potassium bromate, and propyl paraben.
Always Check the Label
Ingredients and recipes can change, so families should always check the current ingredient label before sending food or snacks to school.

Thank you to our families for helping us support healthy choices and maintain a safe, healthy school environment for all of our students.
